Todd Gongwer’s “Lead. . .for God’Sake”
I listened to Paul Gongwer speak this morning about principled leadership. Paul is the author of “Lead. . .for God’Sake,” who gave up his life as coach and corporate manager to devote his life to helping leaders in the sports and business world reorient their lives to pursue a higher purpose. His book has had a major impact on men and women all across the country, including OSU coach Urban Meyer, who cited it in a recent ESPN article as a life-changing book, forcing him to reexamine “why do I do what I do.”
Todd feels that leaders need to address these critical questions below and then reorient one’s motives and actions to change themselves and the way they relate to the people around them:
• What is Leadership? It is influence that comes from actions.
• What is Character? Actions that stem from one’s core values.
• What is Responsibility? Accepting one’s own contributions to a problem or situation rather than blaming somebody or something else.
• What is My Purpose? Deep down, the things that drive a person – the “why do I do what I do” question. Todd’s take is that we are built for relationships.
• What are My Priorities? Maybe it’s time to live life as though we only have six months to live.
• What is My Passion? Pursue the right things, in the right way, for the right reasons.
